Catholicos Aram I and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad meet in Damascus
On 4 January Catholicos Aram I met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Presidential Palace in Damascus. The Press Service of Holy See of Cilicia in Damascus reports about this.
During the meeting which lasted more than an hour Syrian President provided Aram I with thorough information on the political situation inside the country, as well as on the recent developments.
His Holiness has welcomed the re-establishment of peace in Aleppo and expressed hopes that peace and solidarity would prevail in Syria in the nearest future. Afterwards Catholicos Aram I turned to Turkey’s ongoing policy of denial and destruction in the region in general and especially in the Syrian territory.
Aram I also underscored and expressed hopes that restoration process will soon start in the country with all the communities, including the Christian community and in particular the Armenians taking part in it.
The meeting was also attended by Beria Diocese Primate Father Shahan Archbishop Sarkissian, Armenian deputy of the Syrian parliament Zhirayr Reisyan and other members of the Armenian Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia.
