Political scientist Sergey Minasyan dismissed the claims about increased tensions along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the Karabakh-Azerbaijani Line of Contact after the Azeri sabotage infiltration attempt near Chinari village, saying that is explained by military political nature of the occurred situation.

At a press conference held on Wednesday, Minasyan touched upon the reasons for delayed statement over the sabotage infiltration by the Minsk Group.

“I am prone to think that the holidays affected the Minsk Group activity and the style. The first two sentences of the statement are contradicting. They attempted to introduce parity between the actions of the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides, yet I am doubtful that co-chairs are unaware about the side standing behind the sabotage. As to the call about the return of the body of an Azeri saboteur, the reasonable question is raised how the body of Azeri saboteur appeared on the Armenian side if Azeris were not the ones who started the subversive operation. I would also highlight the part of the statement calling for the implementation of the agreements reached at Vienna and St. Petersburg summits. To put aside all the diplomatic aspects of those messages, the calls are addressed exclusively to the Azerbaijani side,” Minasyan maintained.

The political scientist also dismissed the possibility of the change of Armenia’s format of participation in the Collective Security Forces Organization (CSTO) for the foreseeable future, considering the approaches by the CSTO member-states toward the Artsakh issue.
