Charges filed against three rectors of private universities in Armenia
Due to the large-scale investigative activities undertaken by Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) cases of providing diplomas formed on the basis of false grounds by different private universities of Armenia have been uncovered, the NSS informed Panorama.am.
As the Press Service of the NSS reports according to the preliminary evidence the rectors of a number of private universities operating in Yerevan and in regions and accredited by Armenia’s Ministry of Education and Science have issued fraudulent graduation diplomas to individuals who have failed to attend lectures and in certain cases to the students who have not even taken part in mid-term and final exams.
It is to note that false diplomas have been issued not only to the RA citizens but also to foreign citizens, particularly to dozens of citizens from Iran, U.S., Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan and Israel resulting to the risks of new violations of law and other adverse effects.
As the source reports charges have been filed against the three rectors of the private universities for bribery (Part 3 of Article 200 of the RA Criminal Code) and power abuse by an employee of a trading or other organization (Part 1 of Article 214 of the RA Criminal Code.)
The National Security Service of Armenia notifies that the use of the graduation diplomas obtained in the above mentioned circumstances or by other fraudulent manners or the use of other forged documents are subject to prosecution and punished by law.
Preliminary investigation is underway.
