Powerful anticyclone over the territory of Armenia becomes real disaster, Surenyan says
“The powerful anticyclone formed over the territory of Armenia, which is an area of intense high pressure and the air masses within it have a high density and mainly move downwards, has become a real disaster for Ararat Valley and the adjacent foothills,” Head of Meteorological Centre of Hydromet Service of the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations Gagik Surenyan has noted the aforesaid in a post on facebook, Panorama.am reports.
The specialist notes that this cyclone has formed a dam blocking the penetration of western cyclones into Armenia and it is already for 20 days that Ararat Valley and the foothills adjacent to it have been absorbed by thick fog and stagnant cold air masses.
“As that blocking anticyclone will not lose its force in the coming five days the weather conditions will not change significantly. The fog across Ararat Valley, Aragatsotn, Kotayk, and Vayots Dzor foothills will maintain accompanied by light snowfalls. Clear weather and temporary cloudiness is expected in the other regions of Armenia,” Surenyan added.
