Over 80 non-governmental organizations in Georgia urge the government to release the contract concluded between Georgia and Russian Gazprom over the terms of Russian gas transit into Armenia through Georgia, Panoram.am reports citing Apsny.ge news agency.

“Such an agreement between Georgia and Russia cannot be considered only within commercial sphere, as Russia has occupied our country,” Apsny.ge reports citing executive director of the Economic Policy Research Center Nino Evgenidze.

In its address to the Georgian government the public sector has mentioned all the risks possible to emerge as a result of the changes in the agreement with the Russian side.
“It is not clear when the authorities state that the document is considered as a trade secret. And all these in case when Russia is an occupant. In fact it is an agreement which can cause harm to Georgia,” an NGO representative Lasha Tugushi has noted.

The source reminds that last week Georgia’s Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze informed that after the talks of three stages the government has reached an agreement with the Russian company over the terms of the Russian gas transit to Armenia through Georgia.

The sum of money to be paid by the Russian side to Georgia has not been published claiming that it is a trade secret. The government has noted that the sum is below the 10 percent set previously.

Notably yesterday Georgian President expressed concerns over the agreement stating that the new transit terms with Russia’s Gazprom ‘worsens the country’s energy sector’ and ‘harms Georgia’s political and economic interests.’
