Low temperature to cause grape harvest loss to certain extent, deputy minister says
The temperature below zero recorded in the Ararat Valley for a month will not have a significant negative impact on the agriculture in Armenia.
During the interview conducted by Panorama.am Deputy Agriculture Minister Ashot Harutyunyan noted that frost damage could have been caused to those vineyards that have not been covered with soil.
“We will face grape harvest losses to a certain extent for home use, however no other problems are observed in the field. The extent of damage can be determined when the spring comes,” the deputy minister noted.
The minster cannot state the exact amount of hectares of the yards that have not been protected with soil. “We cannot mention the exact amount as no one has made calculations,” he stated.
A. Harutyunyan explained that the wheat under cover of snow is not endangered and the temperature has not reached to the critical optimum temperature for other crops and trees.
“The critical temperature varies for different crop species of different ages. As of now I assure you there is no alert,” he added.
