Parliament Vice President raises the need for CoE Commissioner to visit Artsakh
Armenia’s National Assembly (NA) Vice President, Head of the RA NA Delegation to PACE Hermine Naghdalyan has discussed the Azerbaijani brutalities during the April War in Karabakh as well as the recent sabotage infiltration attempt by Azerbaijani forces in Chinari village of Armenia at a meeting with Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE) Thorbjorn Jagland held on Thursday in Strasbourg.
According to the release by the National Assembly press service, Naghdalyan and other delegates of Armenia have submitted comprehensive materials about Azerbaijani violations of the human rights norms, specifically targeting the Armenian civilian population, cases of vandalism and other crimes in the meeting with Nils Muižnieks, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe.
Naghdalyan has appreciated the Secretary General’s position that no “black hole” should remain in Europe where Council of Europe human rights mechanisms cannot be implemented.
Vice President of the National Assembly has raised the necessity for the Commissioner Nils Muižnieks and his representatives to visit Artsakh to get objective information about the human rights situation on the ground considering Artsakh has unilaterally joined the European Convention of Human Rights, at the same time remaining the only territory in the European continent where the Commissioner has paid no visit.
