Vladimir Alikhanyan who fell victim to April War would have turned 21
Commander at a tank unit in Jrakn (Jabrayil) Vladimir Alikhanyan, who fell during the April war, would have become 21 on January 29. Alikhanyan’s unit was stationed in Fizuli. On April 2 his crew went for a rescue operation to Jabrayil, where after two days of restless fighting and entering three kilometers into the enemy territory, their tank was hit by the adversary.
Along with two other servicemen, Tigran Abgaryan and Beniamin Yeghoyan, Alikhanyan eliminated 3 tanks, one armored vehicle and number of fighters during the battles.
Alikhanyan spent his childhood in Takhta neighborhood of Dilijan. His mother Anna Mukuchyan told in one of interviews that Alikhanyan was hardworking and helpful person. “He used to solve all the matters at home as well, all the time telling me to count on him,” the mother recalled with sadness.
Vladimir studied in Dilijan secondary school, then entered a college. In 2014 he joined the army.
“He was quite good at serving in the army. One day I received a call with him saying 78 days left until the completion of military service. I told him I was not counting the days. a couple of days later he was killed,” Alikhanyan’s mother told with tears in her eyes.
Vladimir Alikhanyan was posthumously awarded with a first class Order of “Combat Cross” as well as the NKR medal "For Courage" for personal bravery and courage shown during the battle.
On January 29 the birthday anniversary of another hero - Zorik Gevorgyan - is marked, who was killed while thwarting the sabotage infiltration attempt by the adversary on August 2, 2014. Zorik Gevorgyan would turn 28.
