"The Last Inhabitant” premieres in Stepanakert, NKR
“The Last Inhabitant,” a film directed by Jivan Avetisyan, premiered in Stepanakert, which was followed by a press conference with the film crew, Panorama.am reports referring to Artsakhpress.
As the source reports filmmaker Jivan Avetisyan has noted that the film is another attempt to show the consequences of the Artsakh war.
“The Last Inhabitant” is about an Armenian village that was forcibly emptied of its residents. Abgar, the film’s main character, stays behind all alone in a gradually shrinking enemy ring. He is waiting for his daughter, who became a witness to her husband’s murder by an angry mob and was hospitalized with a mental disorder.
An Azerbaijani named Ibrahim promises to find and return Abgar’s daughters, but demands that the latter work on the construction of a mosque.
A few days later, Ibrahim finds the girl, named Yurga, in one of the psychiatric hospitals of Baku and brings her to Abgar.
The film was shot in Khachmach village, Artsakh - Jivan Avetisyan's home village.
The film was created on the basis of Tsovinar Khachatryan’s "Gyurjevan’s Last Inhabitant" story.
Well-known actors from Iran, Lithuania, Greece, the United States and Russia also starred in the film.
Alexander Khachatryan starring in the film noted that before being shot in the film he had learnt the Karabakh dialect and Turkish, as the primary character is an Artskah resident who is living in a village invaded by the Azerbaijani forces.
Sharing her impressions on the film NKR Minister of Culture and Youth Narine Aghabalyan noted that film director Jivan Avetisyan has a unique directing style and his films stand out with their complex script structure and keep the audience stained till the end of the films.
To note the Armenian premiere of “The Last Inhabitant” was held within 13th Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival on 12 July.
