Today Armenia’s Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan has had a meeting with Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Peter Switalski, Panorama.am reports.

Issues over the cooperation in the anti-corruption fight were discussed during the meeting.

Karen Karapetyan has briefed on the measures taken by the Armenian Government so far, in particular the legislative reforms, the adopted decisions and activities carried out within the Anti-Corruption Council. Turning to the upcoming plans PM has noted that currently a new legislative package is being worked out which prescribes the establishment of an Independent Anti-Corruption Body based on the Commission on Ethics of High-Ranking Officials of Armenia.

This package completely revised the current systems of submitting declarations and the conflicts of interests. Works are also underway to improve the quality of the investigation of corruption cases. Currently a number of important draft laws are being developed on the basis of the discussions of the Anti-Corruption Council aimed at reducing the corruption risks in all the spheres.

PM Karapetyan has underscored that the efficiency and success of the anti-corruption measures also depend on the society’s civil stance and the government will take steps to activate the feedback from the public including by means of boosting the works of the Anti-Corruption Council.

Peter Switalski has welcomed the efforts of the RA Government in its fight against corruption and conveyed the gratitude of the business operators to the PM for the decisions and the legislative initiatives related to the sphere. He noted that the EU Delegation to Armenia is ready to continue its cooperation with the Armenian Government within the priorities and anti-corruption reforms highlighted by the Prime Minister.

Armenia’s PM and the Head of the EU Delegation also exchanged ideas over the possibility of implementing joint programs within the Centre for Strategic Initiatives.
