Davit Babayan comments on Azerbaijani failure to lead OSCE Mission to frontline positions
It has been not the first time and would not be the last when Azerbaijan fails to lead OSCE Mission to its frontline positions during the planned monitoring of the Line of Contact between the armed forces of Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan, spokesperson to Artsakh President Davit Babayan told panorama.am commenting on the incident.
To note the monitoring was conducted on Tuesday in the direction of the NKR Hadrut region, to the north of Horadiz.
To Babayan’s conviction, Azerbaijan often cites security concerns to explain such decisions.
“These incidents complicate the work of the OSCE missions. Ceasefire observation missions have no political relevance and are solely aimed at observing the situation on the Line of Contact at the time. The Azerbaijani side displays non-constructive approach even in these matters,” Babayan noted, adding we cannot recall cases when the Armenian side refused to lead OSCE Mission to its frontline positions, while the opposite has been quite a common practice.
In spokesperson’s words, introduction of the investigative mechanisms is vital in terms of maintaining peace and stability. “If violations are recorded in technical matters, what may we would from discussions over serious topics. This case comes to demonstrate once again we are dealing with an inadequate neighbor we can expect anything from,” concluded Babayan.
