Russia and Georgia reach an agreement in favor of Armenia_ specialist on Georgian studies says
“The initiative of PM Karen Karapetyan begins to be brought to life. Russia and Georgia have reached an agreement in favor of Armenia,” specialist on Georgian studies Alik Eroyants has made such a statement in a post on facebook, Panorama.am reports.
The thing refers to finding an alternative road to Lars. Eroyants reminds that recently Armenia’s PM Karen Karapetyan has tasked the competent state departments to hold talks with the Georgian and Russian sides on the issue of operating an alternative road for carrying out cargo transportation from Armenia to Russia and in the reverse direction.
“Certainly the task is important and meantime difficult to realize, as it does not only depend on one or two sides. Conflict of political interests prevents from registering serious progress in the Georgia-Russia relations. However it turns out that the ice begins to break in regard to finding an alternative to Lars,” Eroyants noted.
He added that the results of the meeting held between negotiators of Georgia and Russia Abashidze and Karasin held in Prague can be unprecedented in terms of registered possible positive results. As it became clear after the meeting, the sides had agreed to fulfil the agreement reached between Georgia and Russian still on 9 November 2011. The agreement prescribes engaging in commercial activities and opening transport communication through Abkhazia and South Ossetia. This means that in a short period Armenia can use a new road as an alternative to Lars and the shipments will reach to their recipients more quickly and safely.
“The above mentioned agreement reached between Moscow and Tbilisi is unprecedented in terms of its content and clearly reflects a beneficial position for Armenia. The Armenian side only needs to take efforts to complete the initiative,” the specialist has noted.
