Political Scientist Tigran Abrahamyan insists the rise in ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan across the Line of Contact between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan is explained by the active engineering works of installing technical equipment across the defense line of the Artsakh.

To note, Azerbaijani forces have applied artillery guns and mortars over the past several days along the Line of Contact between Nagorno Karabakh Republic (NKR) and Azerbaijani opposing forces, resulted both in intensification of the ceasefire violation cases as well as the increase of weapon calibers.

In an interview with Panorama.am Abrahamyan said: “The use of artillery is explained by two factors. First, the Armenian forces are actively installing technical equipment across the defense line that is aimed at hampering efficient sabotage infiltration attempts by Azerbaijan, given those attempts have been their main tools for border provocations over the past years. We can record that combat positions equipped with modern technical monitoring devices are seeing no subversive operations.”

In Abrahamyan’s observation, the second factor prompting Azerbaijani escalation of the situations is conditions with the fact Azerbaijan toughens its position as expressed not only through its public statements but also the heavy militarization of the frontline, accumulation of new weaponry and forces, in particular snipers that keep the frontline situation under constant threat.

Abrahamyan next suggested that NKR Defense Army undertakes punitive actions from time to time as evidenced by the reports being surfaced in Azerbaijani media outlets and especially on social media sites where the state has less control over the reports.
