Azerbaijani president appoints wife Mehriban Aliyeva as First Vice-President of the country
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has appointed his wife Mehriban Aliyeva as First Vice President of the country, RIA Novosti reported.
Pursuant to the Azerbaijani Constitution, the First Vice President undertakes the responsibilities of the country’s president in case the latter is not able to fulfil them. In addition, prior to this, in the September of the last year Aliyev held a referendum on Constitutional reforms extending the terms of the vice president and president from 5 to 7 years.
As the Press Service of the Azerbaijani President reports, before Mehriban’s appointment, Vice President's post was vacant.
