Major of the RA Armed Forces, a hero of our days Sargis Stepanyan is marking his 34th birthday anniversary. “Protecting the motherland, the family is a sacred duty,” said Sargis in one of his interviews.
In summer 2014 the adversary launched a sabotage infiltration attempt at one of Armenian military posts. The Armenian units repelled the enemy’s subversive attack leaving a wounded soldier in the buffer zone between the opposing forces of Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan. In an interview with Hay Zinvor (Armenian Soldier) newspaper, Sargis recalled “People said my heart stopped for 20 seconds during the surgery. At the time when doctors were struggling for my life, I was dreaming of myself fighting alone with Azeris, firing from all types of weapons, running, crawling and at the same time clearly listening to the irregular heartbeats with an inner voice calling to never give up.”
Indeed, Sargis didn’t’ give up, and started not only walking months after the surgery but also engaged in sports. He participated in the World Arm-wrestling Championship 2016 and won the fourth place competing with representatives from 59 countries. Moreover, he has lifted a 32-kg dumbbell for several times, setting a record registered in the “Armenian Heroes Book”.
