Artsakh Constitutional Referendum speaks of sustainable democracy, Argentinian observers say
NKR National Assembly Speaker Ashot Ghoulyan received on Wednesday parliamentarian Brenda Austin from Argentine and representative of the Armenian Assembly of Argentine Nikolas Sabunjian, who had carried out monitoring mission during the Artsakh Constitutional Referendum held on February 20.
According to the press statement, issued by the NKR National Assembly, Ashot Ghuyan noted the recommendations made by the observers help Artsakh to gradually improve the conduct of elections and referendums.
Parliamentarian Brenda Austin noted that the fact of inviting observers to watch democratic processes - elections speaks of the sustainability of state institutions.
“I visited 7 polling stations and was impressed by the high-level preparedness of the voting procedure, control mechanism, the work of administrative staff at the stations, the veracity of the voting lists, consolidation and awareness of the citizens. They even directed us to not practice something out of order,” the parliamentarian noted, adding: “This is the evidence of the high level of democracy perception.”
At the request of the observers the National Assembly Speaker Ashot Ghoulyan presented the prehistory of the constitutional changes and responded to their questions.
Recapping the meeting, Ghoulyan said: “We are grateful for your personal and professional assessment, since we have no other than this choice to present ourselves to the world.”
