Russian citizens can visit Armenia with internal passports starting from tomorrow
Starting from 23 February the citizens of Russia will be able to visit Armenia with internal passports. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced about this during today’s meeting with Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian, RIA Novosti reports.
“I gladly announce that from tomorrow on the amended agreement on visa-free regime takes effect according to which the Russian citizens can visit Armenia with their internal passports,” he said.
To note, the Armenian Government on February 16 session approved the drafts on making amendments in the Government decisions on “Establishing the RA State Border Regime” and “Identification Documents”. Minister of Justice Arpine Hovhannisyan noted that the internal passports of foreign citizens will be considered as valid identification documents (IDs) in Armenia and no notes will be made in them, as due to which the internal passports lose their validity in other states. In the words of the minister, this amendment will in fact enable foreign citizens to enter Armenian on internal passports, which will boost tourism in our country.
