Garo Paylan to appeal to ECHR
Armenian Deputy of the Turkish Parliament Garo Paylan has decided to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The decision came after the demand of the Armenian MP of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) was rejected by the Constitutional Court of Turkey. Panorama.am reports referring to Agos newspaper.
The source notes that on 13 January, Garo Paylan took the floor in the parliament, but his speech was interrupted because he used the word “genocide”. His speech was deleted from the parliamentary minutes and he was banned from the parliament for 3 sessions.
Paylan appealed this decision to the Constitutional Court of Turkey, however his demand was rejected.
G. Paylan has noted that he has decided to appeal to ECHR due to the failure of Turkey’s court to tackle the issue and to overturn the decision against the democracy.
