Iraq: Some 15.000 children flee west Mosul over past week as battle intensifies, says UNICEF
Some 15,000 children have over the previous week fled the western section of Iraq’s Mosul city where fighting between the Government forces and terrorists is intensifying by the day, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reports. Together with their families or sometimes separated the children fled to the nearby towns. They are relocated in the refugee camps, however the camps are close to reach their maximum capacity.
Those people, who continue to remain in the sieged Mosul, are on the verge of a humanitarian disaster. There is no corridor for the evacuation of the inhabitants of the city. According to the report of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Islamic State militants have applied chemical weapons in Mosul. The chemical attacks have left at least 12 people injured.
