Sergey Lavrov: The sides are far from reaching agreements on number of key issues
Armenia and Azerbaijan are still far from reaching agreements on a number of key aspects of the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted the aforesaid at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov.
As the report by RIA Novosti notes, Lavrov expressed hope over the settlement of the NKR conflict.
“The evidence of this is the results of the years of contacts due to which we have managed to form a common approach on the key issues which form the basis of the conflict settlement,” Russia’s FM said.
“First of all these issues are security, humanitarian issues, the one over the return of the territories surrounding Karabakh that are out of Azerbaijan’s control. It also covers the topic of the determination of the NKR status certainly by considering the opinion of those people who inhabit there. It also refers to the agreement on the principles of the international peacekeeping forces. The sides have reached agreements over the majority of these aspects,” Lavrov said.
Russian official also added: “However there are two-there concrete topics that are crucial for the final package. They are still under discussion. We are still far from reaching a situation when the sides will develop a common approach on those aspects.”
Lavrov noted that additional steps are still to be taken.
