MP Zaruhi Postanjyan, who left Heritage Party due to disagreements over the participation format in the forthcoming parliamentary elections, has announced the creation of a new political platform on Wednesday. During the press conference Postanjyan informed about the platform convention to be held on March 15 where the details of the new political structure are to be presented.

In Postanjyan’s words, the new platform is aimed at “consolidation of all Armenians” to ensure “people are able to exercise their political rights.”

“Today, our compatriots are deprived of the opportunity to fully exercise their political rights and have restricted chances to participate in Armenian political life that have resulted in flawed consequences. In reality our citizens are deprived of the right to vote due to being spread all over the world,” Postanjyan explained, citing the unavailability of the electronic voting system for people outside of Armenia and their physical absence to visit the polling stations.

The parliamentarian went on saying the platform is called to provide a right to elect and get elected to Diaspora Armenians and promote their participation in the political life with an Electoral Code that would ensure all compatriots’ participation in electoral processes through not only their involvement but also granting political and civic rights to them.

Postanjyan next informed the political platform is set to participate in both political and post - electoral processes, outlining plans for the platform to turn into an institutional structure in the form of a political party. 

The speaker added once the platform is institutionally established, she will announce details of the participation format for the April 2 Parliamentary elections, adding the platform is financed by “economically viable compatriots.”
