Parliamentary elections: Russian Public Opinion Research Center presents findings of opinion poll
Upon the order of the Shant TV channel of Armenia, the All-Russia Public Opinion Research Center has conducted a social survey in Armenia on 22-26 February regarding the topic of “Socio-political situation in Armenia ahead of Parliamentary elections”. 1600 respondents have taken part in the poll from the entire territory of Armenia.
Presenting the findings of the poll, director of the centre Valery Fyodorov said that high level of dissatisfaction with the current situation in Armenia (78 percent) has been registered ahead of the Parliamentary elections. Every second respondent – 50 percent, noted that the situation in the county has deteriorated. Unemployment, road conditions, poverty and the environmental pollution were pointed out as the key problems.
31% of the respondents assessed highly positive the activity of the Armenian Government after Karen Karapetyan took the office of the Prime Minister and 46% of the respondents assessed the activities as more positive.
According to the poll results, the Armenian society is highly politicalized. The majority of the respondents were aware of the Parliamentary elections to be held on 2 April. 72% of the respondents have noted that they will certainly take part in the elections. Valery Fyodorov said that taking into account the amount of the rejections to take part in the survey, 62% participation is expected in the upcoming elections. Asked which political party or bloc they would vote for in case the Parliamentary elections were held in the forthcoming Sunday, 26% of the respondents said they would cast ballots for “Tsarukyan” bloc, 19% said they would vote in favour of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). “Elk” alliance and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutyun (ARF) had the support of the 3% of the voters. 1% of the respondents said they would vote for Armenian Revival party and the other political forces taking part in the elections received 1% support.
Announcing the findings of the people’s preference of the regional candidates, the director of the centre said that the leading “Tsarukyan’ bloc and the RPA faction have equal opportunities having received 25% and 23% support respectively.
“Elk” alliance, ARF and the Armenian Revival factions claim to overcome the election threshold.
He said that the high rating of the RPA party is based on the prestige of PM Karen Karapetyan, who enjoys high public support.
One month before the elections 1/3 part of the voters were not precise what political force they preferred or they declined to respond. According to the director, the significant changes in the election outcomes are based on the mentioned fact. V. Fyodorov said that the developments will greatly depend on the process of the election campaigning.
