Vache Gabrielyan: Armenia may serve good platform for launching a dialogue between EU, EAEU
Yerevan may become a good platform for a dialogue to be launched between the European Union (EU) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Armenian Deputy PM, Minister of International Economic Integration and Reforms Vache Gabrielyan stated during today’s visiting session of Valdai Discussion Club held in Yerevan.
Speaking of the EU-Armenia relations, specifically the new framework agreement, the minister noted that given the fact of Armenia’s membership to EAEU the economic cooperation set out in the new EU-Armenia agreement is not the same as in the Association Agreement.
In the minister’s words, an interest, however, exists in the European circles, particularly from Germany, to restore the trade cooperation with Russia as well as invigorate the trade relations with the EAEU member states.
Gabrielyan referred to number of assessments by international organizations viewing the Armenian economy as more liberal in terms of certain parameters to compare with other EAEU states. With this view, European countries are interested in working with Armenia considering it as a connecting link between the EU and the EAEU.
Gabrielyan noted no cooperation formats are established yet, however, both sides are interested to create them.
