Iran’s parliament speaker comments on Karabakh conflict
“The region cannot withstand a new round of tension,” Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Ali Larijani noted, according to a report by ISNA Iranian news agency.
During today’s press conference, Speaker of the Iranian Majlis turned to the recent rise in tension across the Nagorno-Karabakh (NKR/Artsakh)-Azerbaijan border and particularly noted: “We have always announced that the [Caucasus] region cannot withstand the emergence of a new tension, which is harmful both for Armenia and Azerbaijan. We are convinced that the outbreak of war will put the regional security at a great risk. Thus, the sides should pay attention to prevent escalation of tension.”
To note, the March 5 meeting between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Iran held in Tehran also addressed the NKR conflict.
In this regard, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani announced: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has adopted a position according to which the territorial integrity of all states must be respected. We hope that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be settled peacefully – through negotiations, and security and stability will be maintained in the region.”
