Citizens of Ukraine, Iran and Armenia detained on drug trafficking charges
Due to the large-scale investigative operations initiated regarding the ongoing probe of the launched criminal case, the General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative uncovered a group of people engaged in large-scale drug trafficking, meanwhile identifying the drug-smugglers and users.
As the Information and Public Relations Department of the RA Investigative Committee told Panorama.am, three Armenian citizens, having initial agreements with a Ukrainian citizen, illegally obtained 3611.05 grams of Opium drug from an Iranian citizen on 20 February 2017. The latter were detained on the same day with the mentioned drug being discovered during the search of one of their cars. The search also revealed a Makarov gun and seven bullets of 9mm caliber.
On the basis of the obtained evidence, seven people – four Armenian, two Iranian and one Ukrainian citizens – were charged with detention chosen as a measure of restraint against them. Another citizen of Iran has been declared wanted.
The preliminary investigation is underway. Necessary investigative and operative activities are being conducted to reveal the source of the drug trafficking, as well as to discover other crime-related individuals.
Notice: The person suspected in or accused of an alleged crime shall be presumed innocent unless proven guilty in the manner prescribed by the RA Criminal Procedure Code in accordance with the Court’s verdict made effective.
