More than 700 lawsuits filed against Azerbaijan at ECHR after April war
“More than 700 lawsuits have been filed against Azerbaijan to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) over the protection of the rights of the victims and the wounded soldiers during the April war,” Republic of Armenia Government Representative before the European Court of Human Rights Gevorg Kostanyan noted during the discussion held in the Public Relations and Information Center.
In his words, the Armenian Government has been officially notified by the European court.
“We are already officially involved in the trial as a third party and still have time to represent our position on this issue,” G. Kostanyan said.
He also informed that the Azerbaijani government also announced some time ago that it had made over 500-600 appeals against Armenia.
“They could have filed a greater number of suits; that is the other side of the issue, however the fact, which plays an important role, is the following: the lawsuits against Armenia mentions our country as the respondent side, the appeals made by Azerbaijan name Armenia as the third party. However, in both cases Armenia is notified by the ECHR,” the Armenia Government representative said.
In the words of G. Kostanyan, as of now Armenia has been notified over only 5 suits out of 500 filed by Azerbaijan, i.e. only 5 cases against Armenia entered into proceedings in the ECHR. 23 out of the total number of lawsuits filed against Azerbaijan entered into the legal proceedings.
