Official Yerevan reacts to Lukashenko claims
Ministry of Energy Infrastructure and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia has issued an official clarification regarding Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s assertions about radioactive materials found aboard an Armenian aircraft en route to Bulgaria.
“Belarusian aviation authorities were communicated about the nature of the cargo through respective documents and the relative flight permit was issued,” the ministry said in a released statement.
“On October 3, 2016, Belarusian JSC Air company Grodno airlines transported equipment to Armenia for the program of the extension of the exploitation period of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant's second energy block and the modernization of the main nods implemented by Croatian KHRID Company, that had been chosen by the operator of the program Rostam Service. The equipment was transported for the monitoring of the exploitation as envisaged by the program,” the ministry said, adding after the completion of the work, the equipment was transported back from the Republic of Armenia.
According to the source, Belarusian JSC Air company Grodna airlines submitted a request on March 15, 2017 to operate the Yerevan-Gomel flight with Information about the nature of the cargo provided to the Belarusian aviation authorities and the follow-up flight permit, issued by the latter.
“The transportation of the equipment was implemented according to the contracts and documents signed with the transportation company in line with the rules envisaged by all international regulation documents,” the ministry said.
