NSS provides update on Igla smuggling case
Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) said on Thursday number of investigatory actions are underway in the scope of the preliminary investigation launched over the attempt to smuggle components to the Igla air defense missile system from Georgia into Armenia.
According to the NSS release, investigatory actions involving the suspects are conducted to establish the nature and the degree of guilt for each of them in the apparent crime as well as find other circumstances related to the case.
“At the same time, joint actions are conducted with law enforcement of Georgia to check the accuracy of the preliminary data about the alleged transportation of the revealed arm component through the Armenian-Georgian border,” NSS said.
The agency added updates would be provided in case of new developments in the framework of the criminal case.
To remind, Armenian Security Service said on Wednesday, they had prevented an attempt to smuggle into Armenia from Georgia components to the Igla air defense missile system. A launching tube with 9M39 missile was seized in the operation, while three people detained on suspicion of smuggling.
