Artavazd Theatre Award to be dedicated to Edgar Elbakyan’s 90th birthday anniversary
Artavazd Annual Theatre Award Ceremony is set to be held at Gabriel Sundukyan State Academic Theatre on March 27, World Theatre Day. This year Artavazd Award is dedicated to the 90th birthday anniversary of renowned Armenian actor Edgar Elbakyan, Panorama.am reports referring to Armenia’s Ministry of Culture.
The award ceremony is held with the support of the RA Ministry of Culture and the initiative of the Theatre Workers Union of Armenia.
Edgar Elbakyan was born in 1927, Tbilisi. In 1946, he graduated from the local secondary school and moved to Yerevan. In 1950, Elbakyan graduated from the Acting Department of Yerevan Theatre Institute. In 1950-1962, he worked at Yerevan State Theatre of the Young Spectator playing several roles in various performances. In 1962, Edgar Elbakyan was invited to join the team of the Gabriel Sundukyan State Academic Theatre in Yerevan successfully acting as Giqo -"Pepo", Tarelkin "Lawsuit", Topaz -"Topaz", etc. Elbakyan starred in such famous Armenian movies as “Small Change”, “Fire”, “Near the Well”, “Men”, “Villagers”, “When September Comes”, ‘Star of Hope”, etc. The already renowned actor was awarded with the Honored Art Worker title and in 1978 – the People’s Artist title of Soviet Armenia. Elbakyan died in 1988, Yerevan.
