Parliamentary elections 2017: Technical equipment for voter registration tested in Yerevan
Technical equipment for voter registration during the April 2 parliamentary elections was displayed and tested on Saturday at the initiative of Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
The Head of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Armenia Tigran Mukuchyan said the event was aimed at presenting the technical equipment and the relevant software to be used during the election processes, specifically the registration of the electors before the vote through inserting an identification document and printing a voting pass. In Mukuhyan’s words all the defects of the first testing were corrected.
Another innovation introduced d by Armenia’s new electoral legislation is the installment of cameras in around 1,500 polling stations throughout the republic to monitor the course of elections via live broadcast.
The Chief of RA Government Staff Davit Harutyunyan, present at the event, spoke about the mechanisms to prevent possible electoral fraud in places where cameras are not installed. “To my conviction, there wasn’t even a need for the cameras. They come to serve as an additional confidence-building measure,” Harutyunyan said, adding the obtained technical equipment operate well with expected 99,9 per cent prevention of possible inaccuracies related to the voter lists.
