CIS observers: Election campaign in Armenia held in line with legislation
The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) observation mission has published an interim report on the monitoring of the election campaign in the run-up to Armenia’s parliamentary elections slated for April 2.
The report reads that candidates and political forces running for the elections are provided with equal opportunities for conducting a campaign, while the usage of the modern technology is aimed at eliminating double voting and other possible election fraud.
The report draws attention to the fact that election campaign is conducted in a free and fair environment with all participants able to freely explicate their political views and assessments, familiarize the voters with election programs.
The observation mission notes that the new Electoral Code was updated and designed for the improvement of the electoral processes as well as creating additional measures to ensure fair political competition, strengthening the work of political parties and promoting people’s participation in election processes.
CIS observes note the active campaign launched by political forces with active participation of the representatives of the civil society.
«The election campaign is largely conducted in line with the existing legislation,” the observers said.
To remind, 171 CIS observers are set to follow parliamentary elections in Armenia. CIS observation mission will include 171 members from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly as well as the Executive Committee of the organization.
