Clothing factory in Armenia’s Gyumri city to create 700-800 new jobs
A clothing factory will be founded in Gyumri under a USD12 million-worth investment program that is set to generate 700-800 jobs. To this end, Armenian Government made a decision to allocate to Sastex the building of the former regional hospital and the surrounding areas.
As the Press Service of the Armenian Government reports, in the framework of his visit paid to Gyumri city, Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan toured to Sastex textile manufacturer’s construction site to get acquainted with the ongoing work and the existing problems.
Sastex CEO Christian Geleji informed the PM that the groundwork reinforcement activities had already been completed. The building is earthquake-resistant and almost ready for commissioning. Interior and exterior decorations remain to be carried out along with the installation of electric power fittings. The factory will consist of 5 buildings.
The building of regional hospital shall serve as a training center, which will also accommodate the Company’s administrative premises and a stand for showcasing the Sastex-made products. 90 percent of the output will be exported.
Christian Geleji also noted that there are cottages currently installed next to the new-built factory. There are several families living there, which will need to be accommodated after evacuation. Therefore, 16 one-story houses are being built to accommodate those households free of charge. The first 8 houses were said to be ready for housewarming in the month of July.
Introducing the further steps of development, the Premier was asked to consider the possibility of allocating to the company the unused buildings by the nearby railway. Welcoming Sastex’s development plans, Karen Karapetyan expressed readiness to support them in this matter.
