Armenia's FM receives head of OSCE/ODIHR short-term observation mission
Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian on March 29 received Head of the short-term observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Ignacio Sanchez Amor.
As the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Panorama.am, Minister Nalbandian underscored with satisfaction the effective cooperation established between Armenia and the ODIHR and appreciated the implementation of the ODIHR’s observation mission in Armenia’s elections for the 11th time already.
Armenia’s FM highlighted ODIHR’s observation of the elections, the provision of assistance in improving the electoral process and the established partnership with the RA relevant state bodies regarding the legislative amendments.
The FM underscored that with the support of international organizations comprehensive reforms were made in Armenia, the Electoral Code of Armenia was amended in cooperation with the opposition and the civil society, which was also positively assessed by the relevant international structures.
Ignacio Sanchez Amor presented the steps taken by the OSCE/ODIHR aimed at the observation of the April 2 Parliamentary elections and informed, that the observation mission features over three dozen long-term and over three hundred short-term observers, who will fulfil their mission in Yerevan and in all the regions of Armenia.
Edward Nalbandian reaffirmed the determination of the Armenian authorities in holding the upcoming elections in line with the international standards, as well as the readiness of the MFA to support the activities of the ODIHR observation mission within its powers.
