Drones to be used to study areas vulnerable to mudflows in Armenia
In Kapan and Kajaran cities of Armenia’s Syunik Province, areas vulnerable to mudflows are to be studied through the application of drones. This was made possible due to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) of Armenia in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and with the support of the Defense Ministry of Armenia.
The MES reports that the research aims at revealing and modelling risks at the areas of the mentioned regions that are vulnerable to mudflows. The study will also reveal the level of the clogging of the sewers with mud and garbage, which will enable to take adequate measures to eliminate the obstacles impeding the normal removal of the mudflows.
The application of the drones also aims to modernize and enhance the level of preparedness of the society.
