“The Yezidi Religious World Outlook” book dedicated to memory of Armenian and Yezidi freedom fighters
The Publishing House of Yerevan State University has released a book titled “The Yezidi Religious World Outlook”, which tells about the main beliefs, sacred places and the sanctities of the Yezidi people, as well as their mandatory rituals and ceremonies.
The author of the book is lecturer at Chair of Iranian Studies of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Yerevan State University, PhD in Historical Sciences Tereza Amryan.
Panorama.am has talked to the author on the idea and objectives of the creation of the book.
“I think there is a necessity that the Armenian readers have an opportunity to get acquainted with a comprehensive scientific study on the religion of the Yaezidi people who live side-by-side and share the same destiny of the Armenian people,” the book author said.
Tereza Amryan believes that many of our compatriots will be interested in the book and will express a desire to deepen their knowledge on the religion and traditions of the Yezidi people, who have a rich culture and extremely unique outlook. “Yezidis’ religion has been touched upon by a number of foreign scientists and authors. There are also several books in Armenian dedicated to certain peculiarities of their religion, however the majority of them are amateur works and do not analyse the aspects of the Yazidi religion through the application of scientific methodology.
The author said that they have used and analysed the texts on Yezidi religion, that are traditionally transferred from generation to generation.
In her words, the book titled “The Yezidi Religious World Outlook” is a result of years of studies, which is based both on the thorough analysis of the available literature and the field works carried out in the Yezidi community of Armenia.
“I have dedicated my book to the heroes of our times – the memory of Armenian and Yezidi freedom fighters, who have sacrificed their lives to the sacred mission of the liberation of our common fatherland,” the author added.
Tereza Amryan informed that the book presentation will be held at the Chair of Iranian Studies of the YSU in April, afterwards the book will be available for the readers in the library of the university, as well as in other libraries of Armenia.
