An observer beaten up in Zolakar village, local observer claims
The head of N. 21/29 polling station of the 8th electoral district is unable to control the situation, Liana Hovhannisyan, observer form a Martuni-based NGO told Panorama.am.
Earlier Hovhannisyan live-streamed on Facebook the voting process in the polling station, showing scenes with people voting in electoral booths in groups. In Hovhannisyan’s words, the head of election commission tried to explain the voting procedure and the vote secrecy, yet failed.
Hovhannisyan also informed that a member of “Community Council of Martuni Women” NGO was beaten up and removed from the premises of the polling station. The observer has reportedly applied to police.
In her words, the incident occurred during her absence when a member of their monitoring mission had tried to register as an observer to follow the vote, since the law restricts the number of observers from the same organization. After she left the polling station for the second time the person who came to replace her was denied registration. “The reason, as explained, had been with too many observers simultaneously being in the polling station. The observer was forced to leave the premises being beaten up,” Hovhannisyan presented the incident.
Panorama.am tried to receive comments from Khanum Ghazaryan, member of the 8th electoral district commission, who said no information about beating up an observer is recorded, as to the group voting they visited the precinct upon receiving the alert where the voting was returned to normal course after correcting the occurred irregularities.
The Police told Panorama am the incident is currently being examined.
