Exhibit dedicated to Armenian culture to open at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2018
International Council of Museums (ICOM), National Committee of Armenia on "My Armenia" project supported by the Ministry of Culture and the US Agency for International Development and the Smithsonian Institute is organizing seminar trainings at National Gallery of Armenia on April 5-8 entitled “Museum exhibition: Planning and design".
The course that was launched by Minister of Culture Armen Amiryan, aims to develop skills in the implementation of the employees of museum exhibitions and shows in Armenia. Through lectures and group activities, participants will also gain experience on screening assessment.
“We should bring new way of thinking, adopting new technologies, virtual platforms, involving the IT sector in our work. The scientific and educational work of the museums should be combined with processes underway in the world. The course is aimed, thus, to the good management, good governance of the art. The course is targeted at all museums, in particular those operating in provinces,” Minister Amiryan said.
The ministry of culture reports, the course will be taught by Helen Evans, president of the American Association (USA, Metropolitan Museum), Amanda Frankfurt (United Kingdom, the British Library), Erik Christiansen (USA, Smithsonian museums) group of experts in Armenia and ICOM National Committee.
The participants were selected through a public announcement, given their expertise in the field of exhibitions. Among the twenty-five museums of Armenia and Javakhk, independent coordinators worked with museums, as well as five regional museums employees within the "My Armenia" program.
“The event is related someway to the exhibit dedicated to the Armenian culture scheduled for September 21, 2018 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art,” Helen Evans said, also expressing gratitude for the Armenian Khachqar (Cross-stone) gifted to the Metropolitan Museum in 2008 and is in display.
