Armenia’s protection service issues warning about visiting Vayots Dzor caves
“The tourist flows to the areas of historical-cultural monuments increase at the arrival of spring. Despite the warnings and calls of the relevant agencies, many of our compatriots pay visits to unsafe tourist destinations.
In order to avoid possible accidents we once again warn the tourists to refrain from visiting the Bear Cave located in the territory of Arpi Natural-Historical Reserve of Armenia's Vayots Dzor Province,” the statement released by the Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations SNCO of Armenia reads.
The statement notes that the service’s administration has regularly warned about the fact that the road leading to the cave is difficult to pass, as well as the visitors can cause negligent damage to the archaeological and geological formations inside the cave endangering the living conditions of the bats living inside it. The possible rockfall in the area of the cave can also pose a threat to the tourists.
The Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations SNCO also finds it inappropriate for the tourists to visit Mozrov and Magellan caves of the same province.
