Azerbaijani weightlifters disappear in Croatia for fear of strict doping test
Azerbaijan’s weightlifting team went to Croatia for participating in the European Championship and disappeared immediately and mysteriously, Croatian website Nezavisne reports.
It is noted that Azerbaijani weightlifters – OgtayMukhtarov, Mahomed Mammadli, Kamran Ismayilov, ElnurHuseynov, Isa Rustamov, HuseynIsmayilov andIlhamMammadov – arrived in the Croatian city Split on March 31 and left the hotel in a day without leaving a trace.
It is highlighted that the reason of the Azerbaijani sportsmen’s behavior is that they could be afraid of the doping test, which has become stricter.
Earlier, International Weightlifting Federation(IWF) confirmed that Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation would be disqualified for a year in connection with doping-tests taken from the sportsmen of the country during 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
IWF also disqualified Azerbaijan at the 2016 Summer Olympics. It occurred after the Azerbaijani national team had lost its license points, as 7 weightlifters had been disqualified because of positive doping-test results in various tournaments.
Besides, Azerbaijan Olympic team is constantly at the epicenter of doping scandals, as a result of which leading sportsmen of the country has been disqualified.
