Executive body’s unprofessional work caused inflation – Babken Pipoyan
“The studies of the price changes in the global market following the inflation recorded in Armenia in various periods have reveled one thing: in fact there is no ground for price rises,” Head of “Informed and Protected Consumer” NGO Babken Pipoyan said in an interview with Panorama.am, turning to the inflation recently registered in the consumer market.
In his words, this is exclusively based on the inappropriate activities of the antitrust body and the executive power.
“In the sphere which has a dominant business operator and monopolies, the antitrust body must regulate the prices, and the executive body must introduce appropriate restraining mechanisms in those spheres that do not feature dominant entrepreneurs,” Babken Pipoyan said.
The head of the organization noted that the unprofessional work of the executive body leads to the situation when we register inflation in the republic on a daily basis, trying to come up with an excuse for it – pre-election and postelection stages, New Year, etc.
In the expert’s words, the executive body must manage to run such a fixed policy to ensure free competition for the businesses on one hand, and on the other hand to impose restraints to prevent superprofits of the business operators.
To note, Gayane Sahakyan, Advisor to the President of the Commission for Protection of Economic Competition, told Panorama.am that the results of the monitoring conducted in the major retail chains have shown that the prices of essential food products are mainly stable.
“The media reports claiming that the sugar price increased in the past several days are untrue. One kilogram of the mentioned product equals to 390 AMD as before,” Gayane Sahakyan noted adding that price reduction has been registered regarding several products.
