April War hero Karen Nersisyan would have turned 20
Sergeant Karen Nersisyan, who heroically fell while defending the Artsakh borders during the April war would have turned 20 today.
Karen was killed on April 2, 2016 during a sudden attack of the adversary in a military post in Jabrayil. During the fierce and unequal battle, Karen along with fellow soldiers fought till the last cartridge and died a heroic death, inflicting numerous losses to the adversary’s manpower.
The hero of the April war born in 1997 in Bzhni. in 2003-2014 he studied at Bzhni H. Yumanyan secondary school and entered the National University of Architecture and Construction in 2014, where he was studying at the faculty of architecture and design.
Karen Nersisyan was conscripted in the army in 2015, and as his parents recalled he never complained of his military service.
Karen has been on a guard duty since April 1. A day earlier he had talked to his family members, saying everything was normal. After April 2, his relative tried to contact him, later revealed Karen was in the list of the missed soldiers. On April 10, a transfer of the bodies of Armenian servicemen was facilitated near Bash Karvend settlement. Karen’s body was among the ten servicemen that were handed over to the Armenian side.
“My son went to the army fearless and enthusiastic. He wanted to enter military service. He was very athletic and tough. It was only the ninth month of his service, but he already had attained the grade of sergeant. He spoke on April 1 and said that the scum had become aggressive, but that we are going to give them a lesson and push them back,” Karen’s mother Gayane told in one of interviews.
Karen Nersisyan was posthumously awarded the medal of Courage of the Republic of Armenia.
