UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin admired by Armenians
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin arrived today in Armenia to participate at the groundbreaking ceremony of a football academy to be constructed in Echmiadzin.
“It is pleasure for me to be in Armenia. I admire the Armenian culture, people. history, and I am very happy to see the developments underway in this country,” Aleksander Čeferin told reporters.
He next stressed that UEFA and the Football Federation of Armenia have traditionally enjoyed good relations, which is improving even further. “It is of high importance children and adolescences benefit of such facilities and avoid spending time in the streets,” Čeferin said, referring to the construction of the football academy.
The President of the Football Federation of Armenia Ruben Hayrapetyan on his part stressed much had been done in the past years to develop youth football in the country.
He reminded that over the past several years The Technical Center/Academy of the Football Federation, Gyumri and Vanadzor football academies had been inaugurated.
To note, the construction of the football academy is the joint investment project of the FIFA and UEFA. The two-story building is equipped with modern infrastructure, while the academy covers the territory of 1,100 meters.
The center will have all the necessary conditions for professional trainings, including an open-air pool and a field with artificial cover and 3 fields with natural grass. The academy will have 500 seat capacity to host official matches of the football championship.
In his concluding remarks the UEFA President ensured Armenia would enjoy his personal and UEAF assistance in the future to develop Armenia’s football infrastructure.
“Football is unique in giving life and making people happy,” added Čeferin.
