Armenian Ombudsman’s office receives 5113 complaints in 2016
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia (HRD) on March 31 2017 released the annual reports on the “Ombudsman office activities, state of human rights and freedoms protection in 2016” and “Ombudsman office activities as a national preventive mechanism in 2016”. Both of the works feature the activities of the Ombudsman’s office in the period from March to December 2016, starting from the time the Ombudsman took the office on 24 February 2016, Panorama.am reports.
In the mentioned period, the Ombudsman’s office received 5113 complaints, 1072 of which were submitted in written form. On the basis of the oral complaints, 4041 individuals were provided with legal consultations. Favourable settlement was achieved for 243 complaints under study with 201 complaints receiving favourable settlement due to the rapid response.
Armenian Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan briefed on the above-mentioned statistics at today’s press conference.
Asked about the share of the complaints that received a favourable settlement, he said that the report features only the statistics of the written complaints and the number of such settlements is greater in case of oral complaints.
According to the released data, the complaints have been received both from Yerevan (2590 complaints) and from different provinces of Armenia.
631 complaints were addressed against the Armenian Police, 307 complaints – against the penitentiaries in Armenia, 247 – against the Investigative Committee of Armenia, 236 – against Armenia’s Defense Ministry, 233 – against the courts with several other complaints against Yerevan Municipality, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, State Committee of Real Estate Cadastre, etc.
