Mine clearance along its border with Armenia is not a strategic step by Turkey – Ruben Safrastyan
“Conducting demining activities along its border with Armenia is not a strategic step by Turkey. Moreover, it is early to point put the real objectives of that activity,” Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of Armenia's National Academy of Sciences (NAS), Ruben Safrastyan, said at a press conference on Monday.
Speaking about the announcement made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about discussing the issue of reinstating the death penalty with the country’s government, Ruben Safrastyan highlighted that it is the result of the Western values with the constitutional amendments only contributing to the realization of that idea more easily.
Regarding the possibility of Erdogan recognizing the Armenian Genocide in coming years, the turkologist noted that such a perspective is almost ruled out amid the atmosphere of fear growing in that country.
The speaker underscored that the Kurdish conflict in Turkey will further deteriorate through the course of time.
