Iran’s MFA reacts to Turkish constitutional referendum
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has reacted to Turkey’s referendum on constitutional amendments, ISNA Iranian news agency reports.
As the source informs, at today’s press conference Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi talked about the Turkish constitutional referendum held yesterday noting in particular: “Whatever happens in Turkey is related to the Turkish nation and we will respect any decision taken by the majority of the Turkish citizens.”
Bahram Ghasemi went on adding: “In regard to the effects of the Turkish voting and the adoption of its outcome on the region, we should wait and not hurry to make any assessments. We hope the referendum can bring peace and stability to Turkey.”
To note, turning to Turkey’s regional policy, Iranian political analyst Sadegh Maleki said: “The present-day Turkey, the successor state of the Ottoman Empire which committed the Armenian Genocide, is the main force standing behind the violence unfolding in Iraq and Syria. Turkey wouldn’t provoke a crisis in both Iraq and Syria, should Sunnis were in control of the power in those states.”
