No alternative to finding peaceful settlement to NK conflict, French presidential candidate says
French presidential candidate François Fillon on April 18 gave an interview to Nouvelles d’Arménie news agency, also speaking about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Panorama.am reports.
Asked whether he supports the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh by France, François Fillon said: “In April 2016, the South Caucasus again flared up for 6 days. Taking advantage of the indifference of the international society, Azerbaijan tried to seize back Nagorno-Karabakh. That deadly attack ended in a fragile ceasefire.
Today, our French citizens of the Armenian origin are concerned [over the situation]. I am also concerned, since the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone is a powder keg. Let us not forget that Stalin caused the situation over the Nagorno-Karabakh, as in 1921 he arbitrarily divided the region from Armenia in favour of Azerbaijan. Currently there is no other option, but to find a peaceful and sustainable settlement [to the NK conflict] through the UN,” François Fillon concluded.
