The Turkish constitutional referendum received harsh assessments by the OSCE, which is a highly significant signal on where the country is heading. Larisa Alaverdyan, Head of the Foundation against Violation of Law NGO, said at today’s press conference.

“News spread starting from yesterday over the fact that the opposition is getting prepared to make the same observations, as the OSCE did. In fact, Turkey is moving forward with very tough steps. This entails unpredictable, highly sweeping processes. Europe will   try to cope with Turkey still for a long time; however that country no longer feels itself connected with Europe. Moreover, Turkey will use Europe for its own interests,” the expert added.

In the words of Larisa Alaverdyan, the neighboring state is very skilled and cunning in its steps, due to which Armenia must be more vigilant, especially in the context of normalizing the relations. She claims that this is a long-lasting process, which must be preceded by gaining trust.

Speaking about the allegations of restoring the death penalty in Turkey, the speaker noted that Europe definitely has a negative approach towards this phenomenon, whereas the U.S. has not spoken against it.

“Turkey has always been and continues to be a country with a cruelty symptom,” Alaverdyan added.
