Director at Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory outlines upcoming works
The newly elected Director at Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO) Areg Michaelyan plans to invigorate the scientific atmosphere at the observatory.
Panorama.am talked to Mr Michaelyan about his forthcoming activities.
“The scientific atmosphere should be invigorated in several directions. Until now the scientific – research divisions are not established structurally, despite the fact the respective decision is at place. Currently, we are trying to establish more mobile no larger departments to develop directions that are deemed important at the observatory. Those are both the traditional ones founded by Victor Ambartsumian as well as the new and the modern ones,” Michaelyan said.
In his words, the criteria of assessing the scientists’ efficiency should be amended to adjust to the unique conditions of the Byurakan Observatory.
“Those are established by the criteria of the State Committee of the Science; however certain specifics exist with regard to observatories which should be taken account of. Serious step should be taken about scientific seminars, including for subject related matters, scientific-research and methodological directions.”
Areg Michaelyan highlighted also the improvement of observational programmes, specifically, the need to adjust the telescopes to the modern conditions.
