Armenian expert eyes no final settlement to the NK conflict in foreseeable future
No final settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on the basis of mutual concessions is expected in the foreseeable future. In fact, the stances of Armenia and Azerbaijan have not undergone serious changes. The key obstacle is Azerbaijan’s rejection to the introduction of surveillance mechanisms on the (Karabakh-Azerbaijan) Line of Contact. It is not realistic to speak about the relaunch of talks amid this situation. Sergey Minasyan, Deputy Director of the Caucasus Institute, noted the aforesaid at the meeting with the reporters on 25 April.
“In this context the “Nation-Army” concept is highly important and urgent. Should Armenia and Azerbaijan face a military threat, we will need to use the resources of both the society and the political forces,” he observed.
In Sergey Minasyan’s words, this (Nation-Army) concept is not only a document, but rather a value system, which will enable the society to be more involved in the security matters.
“Showing off the modern weaponry was highly significant and symbolic in the [Karen Demirchyan] Sports and Concerts Complex. The “Nation-Army” concept is important in respect that the Defense Ministry raises numerous issues as a subject to public discussion. In the expert field, we must actively discuss the problems that exist in the system,” the speaker noted.
In his opinion, the display of the weapons not only indicated the spirit of the Armenian Army, but also its highly updated armoury.
Sergey Minasyan underscored that as an expert he has positive attitude towards “I Have the Honor” program.
