Trump’s press secretary comments on president’s statement on Armenian Remembrance Day
Sean Spicer, Press Secretary of U.S. President Donald Trump, explained at the White House briefing on April 24 why Trump did not use the word “genocide” to refer to the 1915 killings of the Armenians in his statement.
“The statement that was put out is consistent with the statements that have been put out for at least several of the past administrations. So I think if you look back to the language that President Obama, President Bush have used, the language the President used is consistent with all of that,” Spicer announced.
Another reporter noted that President Trump talked a lot about the fact that he has not been shy about criticizing his predecessors for some of their missteps, addressing the following question to Spicer: “So why not take this moment to label the killing of a million-and-a-half Armenians a genocide?
In response, Sean Spicer repeated his previous reply.
